: : ~The presciption diet is important and, to work for you dog's health, avoid feeding garbage such as table scraps and trash. Consult your veterinarian regarding treats. He/She may recommend some fresh vegetables or fruits.
: : : Can anyone recommend a good food for a dog prone to bladder stones ( struvite) ? We had to change to a prescription formula for 2 months and my dog is S-T-A-R-V-I-N-G! Now he's stealing food from the garbage and table! never did that before! I need to feed him something more substantial. This food - Hills prescription S/D may dissolve stones, but it is not working well for my dog's hunger and it is $35 for 2 week supply! Help!
: Our dog had bladder stones also - but a different kind. We feed him Hill's U/D. He wasn't crazy about the food, so we put a little something in with the food to get him to eat it - like canned dog food, chicken meat, or a scrambled egg. I know we aren't supposed to give him table scraps, but he will eat the food now, and his urine has tested perfectly since Sept. 1997. Our vet also recommended giving him a prescription drug called Uricit-K. Dogs are expensive, but I couldn't live without mine. Good Luck
: our dog also has had struvite bladder stones. We have used a Percription Diet S/D , after her surgery. Both of our dogs love it, but it is very oily and our female has gained 20 lbs in the last year. I need to find a low cal alternative.
